Flying site

THE HEADQUARTERS
The main location of the Championship will be Tolmezzo.
Located in the Udine district, it is the most important center of the Carnia region and is therefore considered its capital. With an elevation of 323 m ASL, it’s located between the Tagliamento River and the stream. At the confluence of seven Valleys, it’s surrounded by the Carnic Alps.
The town offers many facilities and it’s the reference point of all the Carnic Valleys.

MAIN TAKE-OFFs
CROSTIS (1860 m ASL)
Take-off Crostis is one of the highest in the region, there’s plenty of room to open hang gliders and can be reached driving along an asphalt road.
The launch site is used with winds between SE and SW, as the thermal wind from the slope always lines up with the take-off.

PASSO PURA (1400 m ASL)
The take-off, used until the mid-90s, has been recently recovered.
There’s plenty of room to open hang gliders and it can be reached driving along an asphalt road; only the last 200m must be run along a dirt road, kept in very good condition.
The launch site is used with winds between E and S and so it’s the most suitable take-off in the first hours of the day. Usually it offers an excellent service-thermal.

CUARNAN (1180 m ASL)
The take-off, already used during Italian Hang Gliding Championship 2012, is also the official launch
site during FAI and PWCA Paragliding competitions.
The launch site is used with winds from SE and SW.
The road to take-off has been realized for the last Italian Hang Gliding Championship 2012 and it’s easily used by normal cars, although the last part is a dirt road, which has a steep slope.

VALINIS (980 m ASL)
The take-off can be comfortably reached driving along an asphalt road and it’s the perfect launch site for hang gliding competitions.
The launch site is used with winds between SE and SW.

MAIN LANDINGS
CERCIVENTO (560 m ASL)
The Cercivento airfield is actually a small airport, regularly used by a small two-seats airplane.
It’s possible to land with winds from S (breezes) or N-E, but it is not suitable with winds between W and N.
The landing area offers water and electric current.
The main roads are not far from here and there is a wide parking area.

BORDANO (530 m ASL)
Already used for numerous Paragliding competitions as well as for the Italian Hang Gliding Championship 2012, it has all the qualities needed to host a large number of pilots.
The landing field conditions will be improved, but, thanks to the constant and laminar winds and to the wide surface, it already configures itself like a perfect goal for a World Championship.

TRAVESIO (226 m ASL)
It has been the official landing place during the Spring Meeting - Friuli Venezia Giulia 2017 (hang gliding FAI 2 cat. competition).
It is situated in the Travesio sportive area and it offers direct access to the local sportive buildings and facilities. It is next to the main road.

Accommodation and Activities

Tolmezzo offers many accommodations, both in the town center and in the suburbs (1 km far
from center).

An interesting alternative to the traditional hotel experience is named “albergo diffuso”: small
apartments (up to 12 beds each) located in private houses, usually historical ones, which have been recently renovated. All beds are part of a single organization and are served by a single reception.
They are situated in Tolmezzo or in the nearby villages, in quiet places, easily reachable from the center of the town.
The local tourist agencies take care of reservations and payments, so organizers entrust to their cooperation and websites.

Camping in the nearby are not so numerous: only three at 15 minutes from HQ.
