The annual Gatskop Competition will be held on the 20th and 21st of October this year in Porterville. This year we having it in October as this the best time of year for low airtime and experienced pilots to enjoy Porterville's thermals.

Porterville located in the South West of South Africa, in about 90 km from the Atlantic ocean, and 120 km North East of Cape Town. It offers a nice mixture of thermal and dynamic flying, offering big distance flights possible on the ridge and in the flats.

The annual Gatskop Competition will be held on the 20th and 21st of October this year in Porterville. This year we having it in October as this the best time of year for low airtime and experienced pilots to enjoy Porterville's thermals. Friday the 19th will be a practice day with no recovery. We invite all pilots especially new pilots to join us. We will have recovery, instructors and great prizes. Once you have paid and registered you will be added to a Whatsapp group so we can communciate information to you. The annual general meeting of SAHPA will also be held on Saturday the 20th at the Flyers lodge and we encourage all members to attend. We will also have a tandem class so if you a tandem pilot come join in the fun. Hope to see everyone there for a fun social weekend of flying!
What is gatskop exactly?
Gatskop is a fun comp focused on the skills development of low airtime paragliding pilots with the aim of developing their skills in thermaling and cross country flying whilst in a safe environment with Loads of skilled intermediate pilots, skygods and instructors sharing their knowledge(So no competition flying experience needed to participate).
If you have ever been at a Gatskop you will know that there will be sick prizes up for grabs ( Varios , accomodation, SIV's , bunch bags and many more depending on the sponsors)
Awards and prizes for all levels of pilots.
There are also 2 rotating trophy's up for grabs for Beginner and intermediate class.

Form there you can take a car or hire a taxi to get to Porterville.
Car
As you exit the Airport Oval, continue onto Airport Approach Road towards the N2, Settlers Way.
After 1.8km, merge onto Settlers Way South towards Somerset West.
After 4.0 km, take exit 22A to merge onto R300 North, toward Bellville.
After 16 km, exit right to merge onto N1 East, toward Paarl, Worcester.
Drive for 21 km, and take exit 47 onto R44 toward Wellington, Stellenbosch
Turn left onto Adam Tas Street / R44 (North) toward Wellington.
After 23 km, turn left onto Stokery Road (R44) toward Wellington, Porterville.
After 41 km, turn left onto R44 toward Gouda, Porterville
After 35 km, you have reached the town of Porterville.
