Erzincan is one of the famous flying sites in the World. First major event are held here since 2002. Then it was a Paragliding World Cup organized by Semih SAYIR and his organization team. It was a success with 6 tasks out of 7 days.
Erzincan is the capital of Erzincan Province in the eastern Anatolian region of Turkey. Erzincan has a continental climate with freezing, snowy winters and hot and very dry summers. Spring is the wettest season whilst summer is the driest. The city is located at 1185 m ASL.
Cloud base is sometimes around 5500 meters and thermal strength of 6-8 mps are quite common here. Perhaps most interesting side from pilots point of view is the Mars like landscape When you look from above, place looks like another planet. Valley floor is around 1200 m high and highest peaks are approaching to 3500 meters. Small valley of Erzincan are nearly 50 to 20 km wide, providing all possibilities mountain flying and flatland flying.
Its also possible to fly next valley of Tercan on the east, for a longer distances.This valley is also quite high around 1100 - 1400 m with plenty of landing options and tarmac roads.
There is an Airport near to flying site of Erzincan but it is not a very busy one. All tasks are planned with cooperation with air tower almost to any directions. Usual flying directions on the south face of Cakirman village and towards east, to Tercan lake.
Its also possible to fly across the valley and flats on the front, depending on the conditions.
Hazards: The place can be considered as suitable for expert pilots as it often has strong turbulent and windy conditions. The wind speed can rise up to 27 km/h. The thermal activity is also very strong It originates in narrow but fast rising currents.
