Flying site

With 1445 meter ASL the Schöckl is the highest local mountain in the vicinity of Graz. It offers a quick getaway from the city and is very popular among Pilots (HG and PG), hikers, bikers and tourists. While the slopes of the mountain are steep, there is a wide plateau on the top with a great view. To get there you can choose from many different hiking trails (30 min to several hours) or take the cable car from St. Radegund.
On the plateau of the mountain you will also find three different restaurants, a dry toboggan run for children and several downhill tracks for bikers.

The Schöckl is among the few flying sites with alpine mountains and flat land areas near by. While the Alps run to the west and north, the flatlands connect to south and east.

The mountain offers two different launch sites, both are near the top and easily accessible by car or foot:
Take-Off South (wind direction SE-SSW, 1398m ASL): 47°12'04.0"N 15°28'32.0"E
Take-Off North (wind direction NW-NNW, 1419m ASL): 47°11'54.0"N 15°27'36.0"E

Paraglider pilots usually take the cable car and then hike to the launch sites (5-10 min), while hangglider pilots depend on cars and need permission from the local hanggliding club (HGC Steiermark) to get through the gate on the way up. Both launch sites have a landing site near by. Make sure to check the information on the board at the southern take-off.
