Parang Open 2013 Pre PWC
Parang Open 2013 PrePCW will be held from 13 to 20 July in Romania. A relatively new paragliding flying site, Parang offers exciting flights, besides it serves as a training ground for a reckoned X-Alps pilot.
Parang mountains are pretty much virgin and while they are not very large they have the third highest peak in Romania. It has very beautiful glacial lakes. When you fly over the main ridge, the view from down under is astonishing as sometimes you might see the wild black goats
running over the sharp cliffs. The scenery is changing from season to season in miraculous ways. The beauty of the mountain is so striking that it renders you speechless.
There are no restricted air spaces, planes don’t fly under 5000 meters and all you can see are the white contrails from jets. Some helicopters rarely disturb the quiet of the mountain. Under 1800 meters evergreen trees are swaying in the wind and under 1400 broadleaf trees make the carpet on the ground.
You can fly all season round, but winter is so better for other things to do. Freeriding is best served on this mountain as nobody argues about regulations as long you behave in a proper way and not disturb the nature. You can fly from spring when snow is melting down with strong thermals and high cloudbase you can rise at around 3000 meters. When summer arrives and air gets hotter and dry you can climb over 3500 meters with good thermals at around 3-5 meters per second and the distances can get pretty long, you can fly just in mountains for more than 300 km if your abilities allow that. There are not so many roads for retrieval, but for a good mountaineer that would not be an issue. This is the place where Tomy Coconea learned to fly and where he trains most of the time for himself and for Red Bull X-Alps. This year, when we will be here for Parang Open, we will all get together and cheer for him, as he will be in his second week of X-Alps.
What’s really great about this place, and I simply adore, is that not many regular people are coming here. The infrastructure is not at top notch and until now they didn’t build an asphalt road all the way up the mountain, yet, even so, the road is in good condition and people who love the mountains will cherish the memories made here.
Come and see for yourself the beauty of the main architect and decide for your own, as we will all talk about all these wonders at sunrise or sunset with a coffee or a beer in our hands.
