Flying site

Pyeongchang Jang-Am mountain is a peak about 836 m ASL, located in north-east area of Korea. There are numerous mountains surrounding Pyeongchang-city, the floor of the valley there is about 300 meters ASL.

Local Regulations


These local regulations are to be used in conjunction with General Section and Section 7 of the FAI Sporting Code.

1. ENTRY

1.1 This event is open to all pilots from any country which an FAI member.

1.2 The target for maximum competitors is 100 pilots.

1.3 The Entry fee for the competition is 109 EUR (150,000KRW) / pilot

1.4 Individuals who have more than 100 million won(KRW) of personal injury death and third party compensation(including adult and object) 300 million won(KRW) or more of insurance.

■Transportation (landing site - take off site)

1.4 Entry Fee can be transferred to:

1.5 End date of Entry Fee payment is 7 October 2020 and it is No Refundable.

2. GENERAL COMPETITION RULES

2.1 Registration

The online registration will be open from September 21 to 7 October 2020. Online registration can be done

at https://airtribune.com/2020-koreanchampionship-pyeongchang/info

2.2 Pilot Requirements
■FAI SPORTING LICENCE is essential required
■Evidence of pilot qualification: Paragliding license equal to Safepro para 5 issued by their NAC.
※ Challenger Division: Paragliding license equal to Safepro para 4 issued by their NAC.
■Prove of pilot Nationality
■Pay the entry fee for 109 EUR (150,000KRW)
■Signed Release of liability document
■Individuals who have more than 100 million won(KRW) of personal injury death and third party compensation(including adult and object) 300 million won(KRW) or more of insurance.

2.3 Launch order
■ launch order will follow CIVL world ranking.

3. TECHNICAL MEETING AND PILOT BRIEFING
■All pilots must attend the technical meeting.
■If a pilot is not attending the technical meeting, he will be consider understood of all the competition rules.

4. SCORES
■Gap 2020(FTV 20%)


5. PENALTIES

Specify the penalties that may be imposed by the Meet Director.

6. SAFETY

6.1 Safety Committee

At technical meeting, a Safety Committee will be formed. It will be lead by Meet Director with member of Launch Marshal, minimum of two experienced participating pilots.

The Safety Director’s responsibility will be to monitor all aspects of safety. These include but are not limited to:
■Addressing all pilots at a specific safety briefing.
■Attending all pilot briefings.
■Checking meteorological conditions especially wind speed at launch.
■Checking pilot separation.
■Preventing pilots launching with unsafe equipment.
■Collecting accident reports.
■Discussing incidents with Steward and presenting conclusions at pilot briefings.


7. COMPLAINTS AND PROTESTS
■Complaints and Protests will be dealt with according to the procedures in Section 7C and General

Section. A complaint may be made to the Meet Director or deputy, preferably by the Team Leader. It

should be made with the minimum delay and it will be dealt with expeditiously.
■If the complainant is not satisfied with the outcome, the Team Leader may make a protest in writing

to the Director. The time limit for protests is 1 hours after notification of the result of the

complaint. The protest fee is 50USD. It will be returned if the protest is upheld.

Flying site

Pyeongchang Jang-Am mountain is a peak about 836 m ASL, located in north-east area of Korea. There are numerous mountains surrounding Pyeongchang-city, the floor of the valley there is about 300 meters ASL. Flying season lasts all year round.
The elevation keeps 1500~2000 m, average temperature between 15 to 25 °C.
Pyeongchang Jang-Am mountain is a famous paragliding place in Korea offering good conditions even for beginner-pilots. The usual flights are made along the long ridges and crossing valley and along the ridge of surrounding mountains(800 ~1200 m ASL). Can make route to north, west, south directions.
Thermal strength in up to 6 m/s. Usual best hours to start is about 12:00. Thermals begin at about 11 a.m. and last until 4 p.m. The conditions are good for flying - no strong winds in this region.
The longest competition task flights made from there exceed 100 km. And the pilots managed to climb as high as 3000 meters ASL.
This place has already host a number of paragliding events: Korea Open League 2013, 2014, Korea Hang gliding Championship 2010, 2011.

The launch ground is located in 3 km from the nearest town and can be reached by taxi or bus. It takes 20 minutes to get there.
The slope descend is about 15 degrees, it is concrete road. The take off ground allows 2 simultaneous launches. Top landing is difficult, but possible.

Ground is covered with sands. The landing is located in 1 km to the city, near the road.

Plane

The nearest airport is Incheon international Airport of Seoul. To get to the city use subway.

Bus

To get to Pyeongchan take a bus from Tong Seoul Jonhab terminal, where you can get by subway from the airport.
