Deenthorpe Airfield (328ft AMSL) is a former WWII US airbase 3 nm East of the East midlands city of Corby.
It is situated 70 miles North of London, UK. It is in the centre of England and in the county of Northamptonshire.

Great British Aerotow Revival 2022, Hang Gliding Aerotow Event: 7-13th May, Deenethorpe Airfield near Corby, UK

A UK based national friendly competition, that includes a Rigid (class 5) Class , Flexwing (Class 1) and Sport Class. There will be 3 days available for practice and warm up (4-6th May) for pilots that need to get current with Aerotowing again. Individual competitions will have winners' trophies in all FAI classes that have a minimum of five competitors. Places for the actual competition will be limited so make sure you sign up early to save disappointment.

Deenethorpe airfield offers a great cost effective facility with everything we need to run a great get together: camping, cafe, toilets and showers all on site. Not to mention a 1200m runway. Training will also be given in the warm up and on the non competition days during the event.

This is a CIVL category 2 competition so WPRS points will be awarded for those with FAI licenses.

Flying site

Deenthorpe Airfield (328ft AMSL) is a former WWII US airbase 3 nm East of the East midlands city of Corby.
It is situated 70 miles North of London, UK. It is in the centre of England and in the county of Northamptonshire.

The Longest Runway is (020/220) = 1200m and is tarmac. There is a grass option for a cross runway which is being worked on to give a due East/West launch as well.


Welland Gliding Club has an alternative E-W runway at Lyveden Airfield, Brigstock, NN14 3JD

Selection and entry fee

The Entry Fee is £120 before February and £200 thereafter paid to a not for profit business account: "Aerotow Revival Organisation". Payment details will be forwarded to you by email once your registration has been confirmed. There will be an additional tab on this page that will also detail how to pay.

SELECTION
Maximum number of pilots: Places will be strictly limited by the number of tugs and we aim to have five available. If this is the case we will be limited to 50 competitors.

Applications for entry will be considered in the order received after registration is opened and accepted in accordance with the https://www.aerotowrevival.com/Rules guidelines.

Documents required at registration

  • The FAI IPPI card is an International card that states your skill level. It is issued by your National Association and matches the level or your flying Licence

How to get here

Hangar on SW of airfield. Enter airfield 1.37 miles East of estate roundabout. South East corner of woodland

Use the postcode: NN17 3AN, please note the entrance from the A427 is easy to miss!

Alternatively Navigate to Corby and then Weldon village. Take Oundle Rd/A427 from to the Weldon Park housing estate roundabout (last building estate before farm land opens up). From the roundabout it is 1.4 miles until the slightly obscured left entrance tot he airfield. If you go passed the memorial on the left hand side you have gone to far. There is an alternative entrance to the airfield beside the caravan storage facility. This latter entrance may be more suitable for those with trailers or large vehicles.
