Åre is one of Scandinavia's leading ski resorts situated in Åre Municipality, Jämtland County, Sweden. It is also one of the most active free flying sites in Sweden. Åre village is situated between lake Åresjön and the foot of mountain Åreskutan. There are two main take-off locations at the top of Åreskutan accessible by cable car ("kabinbanan") from center of Åre village.
The competition is a top-to-bottom speed run from top of Åreskutan to the landing at Draklanda. The pilot with the fastest time from start to finish will be declared the winner of the competition.
This is the first time this competition is held. Sadly, it may also be the last since the cable car is planned to be decommissioned later this year. This being the only practical means for hang glider pilots to transport the equipment to the take-off it is unlikely this event will be repeated in the future.
This is a non-FAI competition.
