Welcome to the British National Hang Gliding Championships and Open 2023! This is the primary hang gliding competition in the British calendar, and we look forward to welcoming British pilots and our many friends from other countries. 

The event is an FAI Category 2 competition. It will be based in Ager, Spain, and we expect to fly most (or all) days from the Serra del Montsec. There will be competitions for Class 1 (flexwing hang gliders), Class 1 Sport and Class 5 (rigid wing hang gliders).

Es un despegue muy amplio y despejado. Permite prepararse a multitud de voladores a la vez, con una salida útil de más de 50m. Dispone de diversas mangas y cintas para controlar el viento. Su orientación es Sur, permitiendo la salida con viento cruzado del Oeste.

Ager is a locality in the valley between Sierra de Monsec mountains and Aiguabarreig Segre-Noguera Pallaresa National park in Lleida province of Spain.

Main take off Coll D’Ares - 1560 m ASL 31T 313555 , 4657599 (42.048339,0.747082)
It is very big and clear take off. It has a few streamers to show the wind. It is South faced, but it allows to take off with West winds. If there is East wind, it is slightly in rotor. In an east it's better to continue to the Sant Alis take off. The height to Ager is 960 m.

Selection and entry fee

Eligibility to compete in the UK Nationals is BHPA Advanced Pilot Rating.
Eligibility to complete in the British Open is minimum BHPA Pilot rating and for non UK Participants National Rating Card and IPPI Card Stage 5 (Senior Pilot)
Entry fee is £150 (GB pounds), approximately 169 Euros at the time of writing. A late entry surcharge of £40 will apply to entries submitted after 27th July 2023.

Documents required at registration

  • Issued by your local NAC on behalf of the FAI. You cannot normally compete in an FAI event without one. Contact your National Association (NAC)

  • The organiser requires you to present your National flying licence.

  • You will need to sign an applicaton form at the venue. Usually the organiser will provide it on arrival.

  • You will need to sign a waiver or release document to show you understand the risks. Usually the organiser will provide it on arrival.

  • You will need to provide photo ID on arrival. This could be Passport, Driving Licence or National ID, for example.

  • You must provide the organiser with a copy of your liability (3rd party) insurance documents

  • You must provide the organiser with a copy of your medical, rescue and repatriation insurance. You can purchase Global Rescue cover from Airtribune

Cancellation Policy

If a pilot withdraws from the competition before July 27th 2023 the entire registration fee will be refunded.
There will be no refund for pilots who cancel from July 27th 2023 onwards.
If the competition is cancelled due to Covid-19 situation, the entire registration fee will be refunded.

Prize fund and scoring categories

Trophies will be awarded in all classes. There will be no monetary prizes.
