Event info

Çameli (Yaylacık Mountain), in Denizli province, has been operating as an official site for around five years and hosted 2018 Turkish Pre-Paragliding World Cup. About 90 minutes drive from Ölüdeniz, the 2100 m mountain is accessible by road and offers well-kept launches in most wind directions.

As well as the main, higher take-off, there are also new, lower launch sites at 250 m and 150 m AGL. This makes it a suitable destination for pilots of all level.

It works from February to October, with the best conditions for XC hounds in May, June, late August and September. While the majority of big flights have been to the north, it is also possible to fly large triangles to the south or directly to Ölüdeniz and the coast, where you will meet the sea breeze.

Take-off can get rough on the best days so aim to launch early and keep a keen eye out for dust devils.

Flying site

Çameli is located not far from Ölüdeniz and Denizli. It’s a major XC destination in southwest Turkey. The possibilities to fly in all directions are enormous.

The best flying conditions are in May, June, end of August and September with excellent thermal strength up to 6-7 m/s. Still at any other time of the year the place offers good flying conditions with thermal strength of 4-5 m/s. So both in spring and autumn till the end of October, Çameli welcomes pilots to have fine XC flights. During the flying season the thermals are usually active until sunset. The best time to have a start window is around at noon.

Average tasks made are about 60-80 km, yet 120 km tasks are not uncommon. Cloudbase is generally 3000 m and more. In the middle of April, pilots occasionally reach 3500 m.

Main winds are southerly in which tasks are defined as zigzags to the north. Out-and-return and FAI triangle type flights are easily done in light wind and having a goal in Çameli Valley is quite usual.

Landing out is no big problem for pilots since the area has a great road networks and friendly local community who are keen on helping you out.
