Event info

District Governorship of Cameli and Municipality of Cameli, in collaboration with Governorship of Denizli, will be hosting 2018 Turkish Pre-Paragliding World Cup Cameli 6th Paragliding XC Open, a FAI sanctioned CAT2 event. The seven day event will run from 01 September to 07 September 2018, with no rest days. 01 September will be an official practice day; 31 August will be an unofficial practice day. Cameli, which is known as Turkey’s extraordinary XC site and XC competition site, has hosted Turkish Nationals in 2016, 2 Pre-PWC's (2013 & 2014) and a 2 XC Open’s (2015 & 2017).

Flying site

Cameli is located not far from Oludeniz and Denizli. It’s a major XC flights intersection of South West Turkey. The possibilities to fly in all directions are enormous.
The best flying conditions are in May, June, end of August and September with excellent thermal activities. July can be windy, so you cannot expect every day to be suitable for flying. In winter the place is not flyable - the road to take off is blocked with snow. Still at any other time of the year the place offers good flying conditions with good thermals. So both in spring and in autumn till the end of October, Cameli welcomes pilots to have fine XC flights.During the flying season the thermals are usually active until 5 p.m. in spring and 6 p.m. in summer. The best time to have a start window is 12. 30 a.m. - 1 p.m.
Average flights made in Cameli are about 60-80 km. But with S-SW winds, this place place has a good potential for XC flights exceeding 200 km. Cloud base is generally expected as 3000 m and more. In the middle of April 2013, the pilots reached the altitude of 3700 m in Cameli. But it is rather a new place and the experts are sure that it has more records to come..Average of task distances for 2017 Cameli XC Open was 75 km.

Take off Yaylacik Hill: 2130 ASL (36°58'49.12"N 29°18'50.78"E )
Winds: SW, S SE winds to fly north directions. The take-off ground has been rebuilt under supervision of PWC and opened a new short-cut road in 2017. Its size was almost tripled with the help of construction machines in order to host international competitions. Cameli Pre World Cup 2018 will be the first competition of this renovated site. Now cars can easily ride up right to the start. It takes about 20-25 minutes to drive to the take-off from Cameli.
