Event info

The Dragon Hike and Fly Race is now entering its eighth year. A hike and fly race inspired by the idea of travelling across the stunning Bannau Brycheiniog. The Dragon Hike and Fly is suitable for beginners, through to elite hike and fly athletes. Typically the event is 50 - 100km nominal distance around a predetermined route.

Hosted at Cwmffryd Campsite near Crickhowell, the event will normally start and finish here, with a party and prizegiving at the end.

Selection and entry fee

We have a maximum of 80 places. This year there is no selection, places are merely granted on a first come, first served basis. Each year's winner receives a free entry to the next year's race and all pilots must hold BHPA pilot rating, or international equivalent.

Cancellation Policy

Cancellation before 30 days of the event results in a 50% refund of £45. After this, we're afraid that no refund can be given. Entry is commitment to attending one of the two weekends, which will be decided by the event organiser no later than the Wednesday before the event.

Prize fund and scoring categories

Prizes will be awarded to the top three pilots, best newcomer, top female, best social media, and the person who collects the most litter from the mountains (Best Womble)!

General schedule

Briefing will be online on the Friday evening. Pilots are welcome to then stay at Cwmffryd for the Friday evening (with car parking and optional camping on Sat and Sun for £20 total), the race will start at approx 0900 Saturday morning, with a window closing that evening time TBD, and a window on the 2nd day starting at around 0700 - 1500, before prizegiving at Cwmffryd.
