Finnish Aeronautical Association (FAA) and Airiston Varjoliitäjät welcome you to the 2016 Finnish Open XC League Round 5 competion at Oripää in Finland. Airfield is located in the middle of beautiful Finnish countryside surrounded
by forests, lakes and fields. Terrain provides good thermal conditions and flatland XC flying throughout the season.

Event is part of the Finnish Open XC League 2016 that is a series of 6 separate weekend competitions that will be held between May and August. Take off method in all of the competitions in the league will be towing and type of tasks will be "Elapsed time".

Flying site

Oripaa airfield is located in south western Finland approximately 50 kilometers northeast of Turku and approximately
180 kilometres north west of Helsinki. Airfield is dedicated to sports aviation. Take-off method is towing. All pilots are expected to master tow launches.
There are pretty good facilities at the airfield. Mobile phone network coverage is good.

Flying season is from May to September. Long midsummer days provide plenty of opportunities for XC flights and tasks up to 100 km. Cloud base in summer is typically 1500-2200m. From July to August there is an increased risk of overdeveloping clouds. Terrain at the airfield is usually very dry, which may induce some dust devils from time to time. Midday conditions in the summer can be sometimes strong. Generally the thermal strength is in range on 4-6 m/s.
Thermals start developing around 10 a.m. being strongest around the midday. At summer time one can expect to find light lift even as late as 7 p.m.
