A friendly aerotow training and social hang gliding competition for Rigid (class 5) Class , Flexwing (Class 1) and Sport Class pilots. Places will be limited so make sure you sign up early to save disappointment.

Deenethorpe airfield offers a great cost effective facility with everything we need to run a great get together: camping, cafe, toilets and showers all on site. Not to mention a 1200m runway.

Deenthorpe Airfield (328ft AMSL) is a former WWII US airbase 3 nm East of the East Midlands city of Corby.

The Longest Runway is (020/220) = 1200m and is tarmac with a grass Runway alongside. There is a grass option for a cross runway which is due East/West launch as well.


Welland Gliding Club has an alternative E-W runway at Lyveden Airfield, Brigstock, NN14 3JD

Selection and entry fee

The Entry Fee is £135 if you pay before the end of January and then increased thereafter to £200. money is to transferred to a not for profit business account: "Aerotow Revival Organisation". Payment details will be forwarded to you by email once your registration has been confirmed. There will be an additional tab on this page that will also detail how to pay.

SELECTION
Maximum number of pilots: Places will be strictly limited by the number of tugs and we aim to have five available. If this is the case we will be limited to 50 pilots for the competition element.

Applications for entry will be considered in the order received after registration is opened and accepted in accordance with the following guidelines.

Applicants from UK aerotow clubs that have committed to providing aerotow tugs or tug pilots will get 14 days priority for their members to secure registration. Applicants have 24hrs to clear payment after registration, else the date of registration will be the date of payment. Places will be allocated in order of registration. Selection Eligibility criteria (if any): All UK entrants must be current flying members of the BHPA a minimum BHPA pilot and aerotow environment rating or equivalence to the international Safepro 4 standard If UK based, members of the BHPA club in the area they usually fly. Non-National applicants must hold a minimum pilot rating of Pilot or its equivalent. For pilots holding a qualification awarded by another nation’s hang gliding association this must be at least equivalent to the international Safepro 4 standard. An FAI IPPI card may be required as proof of this. All non-national pilots must provide proof of 3rd party liability insurance. The Officials reserve the right to refuse entry to a pilot, subject to appeal.

Documents required at registration

  • The organiser requires you to present your National flying licence.

  • You will need to sign an applicaton form at the venue. Usually the organiser will provide it on arrival.

  • You will need to sign a waiver or release document to show you understand the risks. Usually the organiser will provide it on arrival.

  • You will need to provide photo ID on arrival. This could be Passport, Driving Licence or National ID, for example.

Cancellation Policy

Any pilot who cancels their registration for the competition will be given a refund as follows:
Cancellation date more than 60 days before the competition start date : 50% refund
Cancellation date between 60 and 30 days before the competition start date : 30% refund
Cancellation date less than 30 days before competition start date : 0% refund

If you pay before your place can be confirmed, according to the selection, then you will receive a full refund. Any pilot proving (with medical certificate) incapacity to compete through illness/injury should contact one of the Officials as soon as possible.

Any refund, if appropriate, will be decided by the Officials.

Cancellation of a Competition by the Organisation
In the event the Officials deem it necessary to cancel, relocate, or reschedule you will be entitled to a partial refund. This will be on the scale as follows:
- Up to 30 days before the competition start date : 100% less a £20 admin charge
- Between 30 and 7 days before the competition start date: 75% refund
- Less than 7 days before the competition start date: a lesser percentage to be determined.
This lesser percentage will be the balance of funds once any costs incurred by the Officials have been deducted. The Officials will not be liable for any costs incurred by anyone attending, or intending to attend the event, or any consequential losses arising from the cancellation, relocation, or rescheduling of the event.

How to get here

Use the postcode: NN17 3AN, please note the entrance from the A427 is easy to miss!

Alternatively Navigate to Corby and then Weldon village. Take Oundle Rd/A427 from to the Weldon Park housing estate roundabout (last building estate before farm land opens up). From the roundabout it is 1.4 miles until the slightly obscured left entrance tot he airfield. If you go passed the memorial on the left hand side you have gone to far. There is an alternative entrance to the airfield beside the caravan storage facility. This latter entrance may be more suitable for those with trailers or large vehicles.
