Event info

Welcome to the NZ PG Open 2022 and thanks for your interest in flying and competing at one of the best Alpine flying site's in Australia, the mighty Mt Elliot.
For those unfamiliar with the area, Corryong is located just a few thermal glides from Mt Kosciuszko the highest mountain in Australia where historically the very first Australian Paragliding Nationals were hosted not far from here in Thredbo 1990.
Back then the first competition task was flown from the top of Mt Kosciuszko at 2200 metres. From on top of Mt Elliot you can see the Western face of the Main Range and in the early Spring and late Autumn its peaks are often still covered in snow.
The NZ PG Open is a high level CAT2 competition , it's sanctioned by NZ and aimed at experienced inland intermediate to advanced rated pilots. If you fit this category of pilot we would love for you to come fly with us and experience the magic of flying cross country around the Corryong area.
Important info :
Pilots are required for arrange their own retrieve drivers, A list of drivers will be sourced, but, local drivers are rare.
It can be extremely hot during the summer months. Be prepared.
There can be extreme bushfire dangers.

Pilot must be at least Visiting Members of SAFA ( Australian paragliding association)

*PAYMENT*

PLEASE DO NOT TRANSFER ANY PAYMENT UNTIL INVITED TO DO SO.
If a pilot transfers money before they invited to pay then the money will be refunded minus any bank costs.

*SELECTION SCHEDULE*

Places will only be offered to pilots who have registered for the event on Airtribune.
Places will be allocated to pilots based on the following schedule:

On the 1st October:

First 25 places allocated based on the NZ ladder.
Next 25 places allocated based on WPRS points (reference date of 1st Oct)

Additional places will be allocated to (or reserved for) overseas pilots to meet FAI requirements. As per FAI rules, some places may need to be retained until 60 days prior to the event to ensure the 25% criteria is met for international pilots.

Remaining places will be allocated in order of registration (to a total of 80).

Final places will be awarded at the discretion of the competition organiser in the form of wild cards. No correspondence will necessarily be entered into regarding these allocations. Pilots who have previously been allocated a place but have not yet paid will not necessarily be entitled to a wild card. Wild card priority is likely to be given to those contributing to the event organisation who also have a desire to compete.

*INVITATION TO PAY*

Immediately after an allocation round, the selected pilots will have their status changed (on Airtribune) to “Waiting for Payment” and an email will be sent, with payment details, inviting the pilot to pay.

The pilot then has three weeks from that date to provide confirmation of payment.

A pilot who does not pay within three weeks may ask to be included in a subsequent allocation round. The onus is on the pilot to make this request. They must meet the selection criteria for any subsequent allocation round.

It is strongly recommended to pay at the earliest opportunity.

*REFUND POLICY*

Refund request received before 31 December 2021 = 50% refund
Refund request received after 31 December 2021 = no refund
All refunds will have any administration fee, such as bank transfer deducted.
If you decide to drop out then it is NOT possible to nominate someone to replace you - you will be refunded and the slot will be filled by another pilot at the organiser's discretion

Pilots who are deemed to detract from the safety, or successful organisation, of the competition may be refused entry. A reason may nor may not be given and correspondence on this will probably not be entered in to.

Deep but fast water is at Bringabrong Bridge with some deep slower water at Towong Bridge.

Yarrangobilly Caves Thermal Pool
Worth the drive toward Tumut. The thermal pool was built over a hot spring and maintains a permanent temperature of 27 degrees through all seasons. Khancoban: Be sure to check out Waterfall Farm.. An absolutely beautiful spot on a hot day with good shade and cold clear water. The best swimming hole around. Situated on the Swampy Plains River. Heading out of town toward Thredbo turn right at the powerstation turn off on the right and follow the road till you come to a bridge over the river. Park your car here and walk down.
