1-4 of july we will have the comp next year instead and want to invite you then, see you next year!
Swedish Word for "Kittel" means "cauldron", which is the form that the mountains make around the village below - a perfect thermic paradise from April to October.
Flying site
Kittelfjäll mountain lies to the north of the village and offers multiple start directions above the treeline- Northwest, South, and East.
To get to the start-site, the comp-organizers transport the flying gear with offroad 6-wheelers up the mountain and most pilots walk up the 400 meters (from town) -) a walk that takes around 30 minutes at a normal pace.

The competition 2020 is cancelled due to the Covid-19 situation. We will repay the whole fee for the competition.

Swedish Word for "Kittel" means "cauldron", which is the form that the mountains make around the village below - a perfect thermic paradise from April to October. The terrain is rocky and alpine with flats 20km to the east, and a mountain range that runs north towards Hemaven and south towards Borgafjäll.
Set in the majestic, snow-capped mountains of Lappland, the competition is very well-suited to newer pilots who want to accelerate their cross-country flying progress by learning from more experienced pilots. We have challenging tasks for more advanced pilots, and we have previously set several Swedish declared goal records during these events (and bagged them!). Yet, the organizers ensure that the events are first of all safe and reasonable for the weather conditions and logistics. Free flyers or those curious about this event are also welcome and can contact the organizers. Wind dummies and drivers are greatly appreciated!
Kittelfjäll usually offers excellent flying weather at this time of year, and almost always has valid tasks even when the weather forecast is poor over the course of four competition days. Conditions usually turn on around 11-12:00. The temperature can range from around 0 degrees Celsius at night to 30 degrees in the day. Cloudbase is often around 1600m AGL (2000m ASL). Long summer days in the north provide extended evening flying times and no threat of landing too late after dusk (no night!). And don't worry about bombing out in tiger country. There are a lot of small rivers and streams that are safe and delicious to drink from.
SC Kittelfjäll is the second of the year in the Swedish Cup for 2020. It has been held every year for over 20 years by experienced organizers and is now a very well-oiled machine. We have excellent retrieval support from knowledgeable locals.
Airspace - none within waypoint list, but you can download Swedish airspace here (http://soaringweb.org/Airspace/SE). Also, watch out for the occasional fighter jet.
Mobile Coverage - Telia (see coverage here: https://www.telia.se/privat/support/tackningskartor)
Our fantastic sponsors make the prize table sure to please everyone.
See you in Kittelfjäll!

Accommodation and Activities
We've booked the entire hostel called Kittelfjäll Lägergården for 150 kr / night for this event. There are many rooms with bunk-beds, so mostly just a few people to rooms that hold about 12-20 people. Lägergård includes a communal kitchen (with fridge), dining room, bathrooms (toilets,sinks and showers). Pilot briefings, and HQ, are conducted in the communal dining room.
If you snore too loudly, you should rent a cabin beside the hostel. Send an e-mail to someone below to book this option.
Activities;
If it is not flyable, there are great hiking options through beautiful reindeer country. You can also enjoy fishing, bicycling, climbing, and canoeing. It's remote, so there aren't gear rental opportunities in town. The local grocery store sells alcohol, and there's great restaurant called Granen where local fish is always on the menu.
There is a museum in Dikanäs, 20 k från Kittelfjäll.
How to get here
HQ = accomodation site.
A pretty big building i the middle of Kittelfjäll, with landings right beside.
Its also aproximatly 400 meters from a small grocarystore where you can buy food and snacks.
Kittelfjäll is a remote mountain village four hours (300km) drive from Umeå. There are daily, 1-hour flights by Norwegian Air and SAS from Stockholm to Umeå.
You can also take the train with SJ from Stockholm, or even continental Europe directly to Umeå. From there you can rent a car. Not the driving type? You can even take a bus all the way to Kittelfjäll (around 300 Swedish kronor). You can also carpool with local pilots from the Umeå area if you first contact Emanuelbrodin74@gmail.com.
There are many other ways to get here, including vol-biv.
