Les Ailes du Grand Bornand is proud to host the 2021 edition of the Dutch
Championships. Located in the French Alps, not far from Annecy, this venue is offering a spectacular backdrop for some fast racing through some magnificent terrain.
Flying site
Le Grand-Bornand is located in Haute-Savoie, France, 30 km east from Annecy. The flying site allows many flight possibilities both in winter and summer. Take off is at the top of Mont Lachat, highest point of the ski resort.

Les Ailes du Grand Bornand is proud to host the 2021 edition of the Dutch
Championships. Located in the French Alps, not far from Annecy, this venue is offering a spectacular backdrop for some fast racing through some magnificent terrain.
Originally the event also contained the British Championships, however due to Covid restrictions, the British will not now aware a champion at the event. The British can still however take part in the event. There will still be PWCA letters available, but awarded by the Dutch federation.
The Dutch Championship will be an FAI event, scoring full WPRS points. The purpose of the competition is to find the Dutch champion, for 2021.
You can register from Monday 18th January, at 6pm (UK time)
- The Event will be limited to 130 Pilots
- The Covid situation will have hopefully settled down by the time of the competition but in the case it is required, additional Covid related measures will be discussed prior to the event.
- The event will have a full Flymaster Live tracking system present for safety.

Flying site
Selection and entry fee
- All pilots may register from 18th January at 18:00 UTC (19:00 in mainland Europe)
- BHPA members with a British Sporting Licence will be offered places almost immediately*
- Dutch pilots will also receive an offer of payment almost immediately.
- Other nationalities will receive payment offers from 14th February
*Section 7 rules dictate only a maximum of 97 places can be offered to Brits at the outset. A further 30 places are reserved for Dutch pilots.
Your place at the competition is not confirmed until we have received your payment. The Pilot Lists show the current status of your registration.
Once the competition is full, pilots will be added to a waiting list and then if a place becomes available it will be offered to the next highest ranked pilot on the list. The pilot will receive an email from us inviting them to pay their entry fee and will have 1 week to do so before the place is offered to the next highest ranked pilot on the list.
REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS
The event is open to all pilots. However they MUST fulfil the following criteria
- IPPI 4 or 5 qualified (BHPA members must be Pilot rated or above)
- Pilot MUST hold a current FAI Sporting Licence
- To participate in the Championships, they must hold a British (BHPA ) Sporting card, available from the BHPA office
- Pilot must have flown a 50km flight to goal in a FAI competition in the past 2 years
- 3rd Party insurance
- Medical (travel) insurance

PAYMENT
The entry fee for 2021 will be £240, paid in two stages
Payment 1: £50 to confirm your entry. Payable now.
Payment 2: Due on 14th May 2021*
*If the second payment is not paid by May 28th there will be a 10% penalty. We will send a payment reminder on 14th May, and a second reminder on 28th May. If you have still not paid by 1st June we will assume you have cancelled and offer your place to another pilot.
BHPA members and Dutch pilots who confirm and pay their registration fee before midnight on 7th March will have priority over other nationalities.
PAYPAL
Fees and dates will be strictly adhered to. Payments can be made on our website via PayPal with a Credit Card, Debit Card, or using your own PayPal account. PayPal uses data encryption for the protection of your card details. The pilot entry fee includes the fee charged by PayPal for administering your online payment. If you wish to pay for more than one person’s entry fee on-line you must name each pilot in the Paypal notes box.
BANK TRANSFER
You may pay by bank transfer, however the payment may take some time to arrive. If the event is full prior to receiving your payment then your payment will be refunded and your place will not be secure. We therefore recommend Paypal if your bank does not offer instant payments.
We are looking to offer Euro payments but this is not yet finalised and so is not immediately available
CASH
If you are offered a place at a competition venue, at the start of the competition, then you must pay your pilot entry fee in cash, in the local currency. This is the only time cash will be accepted as payment for your entry.
The pilot entry fee for the competition is set according to the real cost of organizing and hosting the competition. The competitions panel aim to operate as a non profit organisation.

Documents required at registration

FAI Sporting Licence
Issued by your local NAC on behalf of the FAI. You cannot normally compete in an FAI event without one. Contact your National Association (NAC)

FAI IPPI Card
The FAI IPPI card is an International card that states your skill level. It is issued by your National Association and matches the level or your flying Licence

National Licence
The organiser requires you to present your National flying licence.

Signed Application form
You will need to sign an applicaton form at the venue. Usually the organiser will provide it on arrival.

Signed Waiver/Release form
You will need to sign a waiver or release document to show you understand the risks. Usually the organiser will provide it on arrival.

Liability Insurance
You must provide the organiser with a copy of your liability (3rd party) insurance documents

Rescue/Medical Insurance
You must provide the organiser with a copy of your medical, rescue and repatriation insurance. You can purchase Global Rescue cover from Airtribune
Cancellation Policy
For each competition entered, any pilot who cancels their registration will be given a refund as follows (based on Full Entry Fee):
Cancellation date more than 60 days before competition start date: 50% refund*
Cancellation date between 60 and 30 days before competition start date: 30% refund*
Cancellation date less than 30 days before competition start date: 0% refund*
Cancellation of a Competition by the Organization ie Covid19 interference etc
In the event the organizers deem it necessary to cancel, relocate, or reschedule the competition you will be entitled to a partial refund. This will be on the scale as follows:
- Up to 30 days before the first official event day: 100% less a £20/20€ admin charge
- Between 30 and 7 days before the first official event day: 75% refund
- Less than 7 days before the first official event day: a lesser percentage to be determined. This lesser percentage will be the balance of funds once any costs incurred by the local organiser have been deducted.
After the start of the competition any refunds will be at the sole discretion of the organizers.
The organizers will not be liable for any costs incurred by anyone attending, or intending to attend the event, or any consequential losses arising from the cancellation, relocation, or rescheduling of the event.
*In the event that less than the full entry fee has been paid then the refund may be less, or nothing.

As Grand Bornand is a thriving ski resort in winter and holiday area in summer there are many options locally for all types of accommodation and activities. How to get here
The nearest airport is Geneva with bus and tram links to the city centre and bus routes to Annecy. From Annecy it is possible to get the local buses to Grand Bornand.

Plane
The nearest international airport is Geneva (http://www.gva.ch/). With the new motorway A41, it takes about 35 mins to get there by car. A little further away is Lyon (http://www.lyonaeroports.com/), a full international airport, and Grenoble, which is focused on low cost and winter flights. Both are about a one-hour drive by car or bus. The local airport of Annecy (http://www.annecy.aeroport.fr/) only has flights to Paris-Orly.
Bus
There is a bus to Le Grand-Bornand from Annecy 8 times a day. Visit http://www.voyages-crolard.com to get exact time.
Train
If you fly to Paris or you live in France you can get to Annecy by railroad. Visit SNCF web site http://www.sncf.com/ to check the time table to Gare d'Annecy.
Also you can get to Annecy by train from Lyon and Nice.
Car
It takes about half an hour to get to Le Grand-Bornand by car from Annecy - 30 km.
