Flying site

Wharton is located near Houston in Texas (USA) and offers an excellent opportunity of XC flatlands flying and soaring. Coastal Plains of Texas produce quite strong thermals that allow the pilots to soar for hours. High cloudbase between 6,000-10,000 feet. Our elevation is 100 feet msl. Strong thermals average 500-1,000+ feet per minute. The club record distance flights are 220 km made by Mick Howard in July 2015 followed by 183 km & 200 km made by Jeff Bohl & Bart Weghorst respectively, earlier the same month. Texas is a perfect place for long distance flights with its working open flatlands and consistent winds. By the way the World's longest hang gliding flight 475 km was made in Texas in 2012.
