El Yelmo is located in the heart of the Sierra de Segura, framed within the Natural Park including Sierras de Cazorla, Segura and Las Villas, in the northeastern part of Jaen. This is a mountainous part of Andalusia province famous for its olives.
The two nearby towns are Segura de la Sierra and Cortijos Nuevos. The latter is also the site of famous air sports festival FIA El Yelmo.
The best days for distance flights are in spring and autumn, with good thermal contrasts and weather activity that ensures good roofs , often above 3000m beating 4,000 times . Summer is also good for distance, but in the middle of the day thermal activity is very strong .

Classic route for El Yelmo is going the north-east , outside of the Sierra crossing mountains and limestone quarries . It is also possible to make good triangles in the valley.

Launch ground: Spacious and clean , not a problem . Just be careful of strong winds, as there are antennas behind.
Take off Levante: Use more than the take off itself, the race in the left turn . Turbulent at the beginning but with good potential for cross flight.
Landings:
West - the "official" is next to the football field Villas New seen perfectly from the off . For those who are slightly short Ojuelillo is the landing to the right of the second village that can be seen in the direction of flight .
In front of take off - the landing is a clearing among pine that one can see right before takeoff, but you should not go directly to it, but open to the right, because in that area there are important sinks .
Access: From Cortijos Nuevos and at the roundabout take the Ojuelo address , and pass two villages straight . Ascend the mountain by a paved forest road in good condition. Find a marked crossing take a left and in five minutes you're on top . You will pass the take off and if you continue to the West .
Difficulties : There is a power electric line on the right, no problem but should be taken into account when doing low-level slope .
