Flying site

Leivonmaki airfiled is located in Joutsa municipality in Central Finland region approximately
230 kilometres north of Helsinki. Nearest large city is Jyvдskylд that is approximately 60 km north of Leivonmдki.
Leivonmдki airfield is dedicated to paragliging and hang gliding activity. Take-off method is towing. All pilots are expected to master tow launches.
Except of toilets there are no facilities at the airfield. Despite of the remote location the mobile phone network coverage is pretty good.

Flying season is from May to September. Long midsummer days provide plenty of opportunities for XC flights and tasks up to 200 km. Cloud base in summer is typically 1500-2200m. From July to August there is an increased risk of overdeveloping clouds. Terrain at the airfield is usually very dry, which may induce some dust devils from time to time. Midday conditions in the summer can be sometimes strong. Generally the thermal strength is in range on 4-6 m/s.
Thermals start developing around 10 a.m. being strongest around the midday. At summer time one can expect to find light lift even as late as 7 p.m.
