Flying site

Sestola flying site It is located in Frignano Park and is dominated by the Monte Cimon ( 2165 m ) and other mountains that are part of the watershed Tuscan-Emilian Apennines. Its territory extends from 321 to 2,165 m above the valley floor of the Panaro summit of Mount Cimon, the highest in the Northern Apennines .
The capital is located in the middle (1,020 m ASL) , while the valley widens - the Rio Vesale becomes divided between the villages of Casine, Castellaro, Rocchetta Sandri, Roncoscaglia , Vesale and surroundings of Poggioraso.
In the upper area of the country you will find a variety of tourist facilities Pian del Falco, Passo del Lupo and Lago della Ninfa; This makes it an ideal area for nature lovers whom we recommend to visit the Alpine Botanical Garden Esperia - botanical oasis of national importance, situated on the slopes of Mount Cimon and the edge of the Regional Park of the Apennines Modena.
The slopes of Mount Cimon, in an area characterized by forests of beech and resinous there is the Lago della Ninfa - located at about In 1500 m ASL. It’s area is a popular tourist place and a starting point for hiking in summer and cross-country and downhill skiing in winter. On top of Mount Cimon there is a small church, dating from the beginning of the century, dedicated to Our Lady of the Snows, which holiday is celebrated on August 5.
The Monte Cimon dominates with its 2,165 m throughout the Sestolese and that of neighboring municipalities. There is a meteorological station and the Air Force Station "Ottavio Vittori of the Italian National Research Council - Istituo ISAC - for the study of the atmosphere and climate established on top. Stations are reached along the path of the atmosphere, an educational culture born from the collaboration of three Nazonale research Council and the Regional Park of the Frignano and the Meteorological Service of AOS - CAMM and the ARPA Emilia Romagna.
A short distance from the Garden Esperia is located at Passo del Lupo (1,500 m ASL), an important ski station of Cimon, connected to the town by cable car .
The municipal area above 1,500 m ASL, over the Lago della Ninfa and Passo del Lupo, is part of the Regional Park of the Frignano. A behind the town there are two other nature protected areas of minor importance .
Other natural reserves are the so-called Far West, ridges of loose rocks on the south side of Mount Cervarola, the Leaping Goat Pian Cavallaro, under the Sassatelli Vesale and some natural caves.
The flights in Sestola are purely thermal, as dynamic conditions are rare and localized, and are very technical due to the particular topography of the site. The significant shortage of ridges, valleys descend to the north, and many take-offs have this orientation. There is frequently a thermalling on slopes exposed to the north, and winds are more favorable for the flight to the northern Sestola are precisely those which are rarely strong.
These features make the flight in Sestola very peculiar and unusual for many drivers accustomed to frequent areas from the more classical morphology. The miles you earn with difficulty, and it should be a short period of riambientamento to have full enjoyment of these areas. By contrast, the flight Sestola attorney great satisfaction: the beauty of the landscape of the Apennines, the thermal generous quotas of respect (they also exceeded the 4000 m !), Make a visit to these places experience not to be missed. Added to this is that the area offers remarkable safety features , thanks to the sweetness of the relief and the abundance of landings.

Take off - 1498 m. ASL, 44°13'1" (44.217)N; 10°45'37" (10.7605)E
North: easy; grassy and ample. Ski track with gentle slope. With E winds the takeoff is in turbulence due to the tree line: a lot better with right direction in take off, near tree line. South: technical; rocky and steep. Requires good control. E winds perfect for 'passo serra' take off near (1 km) to Pian del Falco, under road for winter ski area. S - W wind: remember others take off near Sestola Pian del Falco in plenty S - W direction. 'Pian Cavallaro 1800mt.' in ski area and 'Croce Arcana 1800mt' Fanano municipality. Spectacular spots!

Landing
The official landing is near the horse ranch, just above the road. Watch out for the telephone line that crosses the landing field. There are many unofficial emergency landings in the area that can be used when going XC; however, land preferably in the official landing if possible.
