Aeros Winter Race 2023 Competition Report
After a three-year break, we finally got the green light to organise the Aeros winter race again. For the first time this year, we also allowed rigid-wing (Class 5) pilots to compete, which added to the variety of events in the Vipava Valley.
The 11th edition of the Aeros Winter Race took place from March 22nd to 24th, 2023. The competition is renowned for its great tradition and excellent flying conditions in this part of Europe.
On the first day of the competition, 61 pilots gathered at the start for a 102 km task. However, flying had to be cautious due to the weather, with only seven pilots reaching the Trstelj turn point and three reaching the goal.
On the second day, pilots were limited to Ajdovščina due to weather concerns, but the actual weather turned out to be better than expected, allowing most pilots to reach their goals.
On the third day, strong winds posed challenges for the pilots, but they persevered, and most competitors made it to the goal with no accidents occurring.
Throughout the competition, pilots demonstrated excellent safety and fair play. Also worth mentioning were the exceptional average speeds achieved by the competitors on the third day. Marco Laurenzi flew his glider (Aeros Combat GT) at an average speed of 78.8 km/h over a 66 km long task, an absolute record for the Aeros Winter Race!
The competition concluded with a closing ceremony on the evening of March 24th. Overall, the Aeros Winter Race 2023 proved successful and exciting, with pilots showcasing their skill and sportsmanship under challenging weather conditions. As a result, the organisers and participants can reflect on a memorable competition that pushed the limits of hang gliding and set new records for future events.
The Aeros company from Ukraine has always helped us with the organisation and practical prizes. However, due to the difficult situation they find themselves in, this year, we decided to help them. For this purpose, the organisers have donated the excess funds from the race to them. We also invite others who want to help the company to contribute at:

Stay tuned for future updates on the Aeros Winter Race, and congratulations to all the participants for their achievements in this year's competition!
