The main take off used for XC flying is 'Pyrgi', a 45 minute drive from Drama and situated above the village of Petroussa. Altitude at take off is 1,187 metres and faces South. Usually the anabatic flow during the day draws the wind onto the face of the hill and there is a light breeze to take off in.

The BPCup is a friendly competition which gives you an opportunity to hone the skills needed to fly XC successfully. You will be assisted to program your instruments and fly competition tasks, learning in the process that flying with other pilots and having a goal makes XC flying so much more enjoyable. If you struggle with the technicalities of instruments, don’t worry, there will be offers of help. In a competition you will discover that the Meet Director takes care of all the onerous weather forecast interpretation, site choice and task setting, leaving you to just take off and fly the task – simple!

Accommodation and Activities
Skygods Paragliding will be hosting the competition for us alongside our regular Meet Director, Gareth Aston. Owen Thompson of Skygods has been running a successful paragliding guiding business in this area for a number of years with many visits by groups of UK pilots.
Accommodation - There are quite a few options within Drama, either Hotels or Apartments on Booking.com/Airbnb, or Skygods also recommend Vila Politeia (Studios that sleep 4 on the outskirts of the town of Drama) with a swimming pool, or Pension Katerina - really nice B&B, in the village of Petroussa (on the way to take-off) about 15-20 mins from Drama. There are some camping options for those on a budget, and also some luxury hotels if anyone is looking for top-end - Hydrama Hotel, Aya Hotel or Hotel Kouros.
