The best learning environment available
Welcome to the Niviuk Fly Wide Open. Founded as the popular ‘GIN Wide Open’, this entry-level paragliding event aims to continue a successful model that delivers a fun flying-development programme in a wonderful friendly environment.
The Niviuk Fly Wide Open is an entry-level International event for pilots who want to learn as much as much as possible from a competition environment but who are perhaps unsure if competition flying is for them. It is registered and run as a CIVL CAT 2 paragliding competition so that participants can understand and learn how higher level events operate.
However, at the Niviuk Fly Wide Open emphasis is placed on participation and positivity rather than on competitiveness and task success. We all celebrate the success of others and share in learning together. There are a host of fabulous prizes for everything other than arriving in goal in first place. If you are already a committed competition-hound, then this event is not for you!
The event is limited to En-C gliders or lower, with the majority flying En-B rated wings. Pilots from all Nations are welcomed with typically over 25 countries represented.
________________________________________________
The Niviuk Fly Wide Open takes place in Krushevo, in North Macedonia, at the peak of the flying season. You can expect conditions to be dry and buoyant with temperatures around 30 degrees Celsius. Perfect for refining your thermalling technique and for long glides on bar.
We plan to have six racing tasks with plenty of educational talks in the evenings and in the unlikely event of there being unflyable days. There are also two event parties where you will meet other pilots from around the World and share your adventures.
Krusevo town offers a vibrant mix of Balkan culture and there are plenty of places to stay and to eat. The event HQ is at the Montana Palace Hotel, over-looking the town and located very close to the main launch area.
PRIZES
The Niviuk Fly Wide Open awards prizes on every day of the event and closes with a Grand Prize Draw. There are a host of prizes from our sponsors and the chance to win the Grand Prize itself - just by taking part!
You can find out a lot more about the Niviuk Fly Wide Open on our website: www.flywideopen.com

Selection and entry fee
The event is a Sports Class only competition. That means that no CCC or EN-D glider pilots are allowed to participate. Pilots flying EN-C class gliders and below are welcome to take part.
The event is targeted at pilots with no previous, or limited previous, competition experience. If you have attended other entry level competitions and still feel that you have more to learn, then you are very welcome to apply. However, pilots in the target category will be given priority.
SELECTION
Selection is based on an algorithm based on a number of factors including the answers you provide via a google forms questionnaire that will be shared with you prior to your entry being accepted.
In that questionnaire we ask you about your level of flying experience, your XC experience and your flying objectives. The organisers decision is final.
More details regarding the system for selection can be found on our website at https://flywideopen.com/entry-requirements/

Bus
A number of bus lines connect Macedonia with all neighbouring countries and other European cities. Buses are frequent, and offer relatively inexpensive fares and professional service. Usually they depart from Skopje bus station.
Travelling on public inter-city buses in Macedonia used to be quite an interesting experience, since it usually included loud folk music and the risk of having to travel next to very different people with sometimes not so pleasant habits, subject to many urban legends and jokes. At present, public buses have improved and most of them have air-conditioning as well. Still, if you decide to travel by a public inter-city bus, do check it first before buying a ticket.
Train
An international train, operating daily, twice a day, connects Ljubljana (Slovenia) and Thessaloniki (Greece) via Macedonia. It stops at Tabanovce (the Macedonia-Serbia border crossing point), Kumanovo, Skopje, Veles, Gradsko, Negotino, DemirKapija, and Gevgelija (Greek border crossing point), as well as a few small villages. From Skopje, Veles and Gradsko there are train connections to Prilep (35 km from Krusevo).
Car
The international highway E-75 runs north-south from Serbia to Greece, bisecting Macedonia. This is the most common route for overland tourists to take for entering Macedonia. There are also good roads connecting the country with Bulgaria to the East and Albania to the West.
Krusevo is on around a 2 hour drive (160 km) from Skopje Airport, via Motorway "Alexander of Macedon"/A1/А1 and A1, or on about 1 h 36 min drive (119.7 km) from Ohrid Airport via E65 and R1305 (note that this path is not a highway).
Rent-a-car
Numerous car-rental companies, run by both Macedonian companies and local representatives of recognized Western companies are available in Macedonia. Among the latter there are Sixth, Avis and Hertz, whereas among the most prominent Macedonian companies one should name Biveks, Ineks, Mn, Ni-Mar Komerc and Putnik-Eurodolar.
Rental car prices in Macedonia generally start from 40-50 euros per day, though for longer periods the rate can be somewhat lower. In order to rent a car, be prepared to present a valid passport and driver's license from your home country.
Driving tips
Driving in Macedonia by car: While roads in Macedonia are generally good, drivers should watch out for falling rock zones in mountainous areas, and dogs, cows and sheep in rural areas. Drivers should also note that in Macedonia it is illegal to talk on a mobile phone while driving, seatbelts are mandatory and headlights have to be on during the day.
