This event is the Inter Service Paragliding Development Championships; it is organised by and for members of the UK Armed Forces.

The Meet Director will be Alistair Andrews of Crickhowell Paragliding, a former UKAF pilot who knows how to get the very best out of a week of competitive but development focussed XC paragliding in SE Wales.

Flying site

Various sites will be used in SE Wales including those contained within the stunning vistas of the Brecon Beacons and Black Mountains.

If you would like to take part in or support this event and do not have access to the Defence Instructions and Notices (DINs) section of the Defence Intranet, please contact the organiser in order to receive advice on how you will be able to obtain a copy of the Championships DIN and then register if you meet the eligibility criteria.

Selection and entry fee

Selection is based upon eligibility as described in the Championships DIN and Joint Service Publication 660 - Sport in the UK Armed Forces.

Payment of the entry fee of £20 is in cash at registration.

Documents required at registration

  • The organiser requires you to present your National flying licence.

    National Licence
  • You will need to sign an applicaton form at the venue. Usually the organiser will provide it on arrival.

    Signed Application form
  • You will need to provide photo ID on arrival. This could be Passport, Driving Licence or National ID, for example.

Cancellation Policy

Any registered or confirmed applicant who is no longer able to attend the Championships should contact the Event Coordinator via chairman@ukafhpa.org at the earliest opportunity.

Prize fund and scoring categories

There will be prizes for the Inter Service and single Service (Royal Navy, Army, RAF) winners of the Sports and Intermediate Classes.

The general schedule will be described in the Administration Order that will be released to all participants ahead of the Championships.

Typical competition day schedule (confirmed night before)
07:00 - Breakfast at Robson Centre
07:45 - Meet Director and Safety Committee initial meeting
08:15 - Review of previous day and initial met brief
09:15 - Transport to take-off
11:00 - Task and Safety Committee meetings
11:15 - Pilots' briefing / Task definition
12:00 - Take-off window opens
18:30 - All post task retrieves complete
22:00 - Provisional results
