Event info
A fun and social event but also a platform for pilots to increase their international and domestic rankings.
Results from this comp will affect both domestic (NZPRS) and international (WPRS) rankings and is sanctioned as an FAI Cat-2 event.
In the event of non-taskable weather an alternative date has been set as below.
Flying location could be one of the following locations:
* Dill's Hill - Auckland
* Moirs Hill - Auckland
* Kaimais Range - Waikato
* Paeroas Range - Bay of Plenty
Depending on demand and location we may put on a barbecue and social event, paid for by a koha (donation) system.
Please note that no transport is included as part of this competition, so that's getting there, getting up the hill and retrieve - please make your own plans. If you turn up with no plan for transport then it's very likely that you will not be able to partake.
Pilots will have to upload their own tracklog to the scoring system after each task. Please ensure that you know how to download an IGC file from your instrument. A link for correct scoring page will be published here before the event.
Personal locator beacon/satellite tracker and radio is mandatory for this competition.

***Competition may be cancelled/rescheduled at short notice due to COVID-19 restrictions and refunds may not be possible***
As required under the COVID-19 Public Health Response Act 2020, and other related New Zealand legislation, Auckland Paragliding Competition is legally required to take certain actions to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. This includes following requirements mandated by the New Zealand government and New Zealand legislation.
At the time of writing, this requires that all pilots entered into this competition and support persons must provide evidence, using any method permitted by the New Zealand government or New Zealand legislation, of either: (i) being fully vaccinated against COVID-19; or (ii) a medical exemption from being fully vaccinated against COVID-19. No other method of evidence can or will be accepted.
Please note, these requirements may change. Check http://covid19.govt.nz for any updates to these requirements – Auckland paragliding comp will follow, and require all entrants to follow, any updates as they happen
Selection and entry fee
This event is satellite tracker MANDATORY - so you must fly with either a Spot or InReach and have provided the tracking link in your Airtribune registration.
You must also have:
* A certified wing with a valid NZ WOF (visiting pilots are exempt from the WOF requirement)
* Emergency parachute
* UHF Radio
* A device capable of providing a tracklog in IGC format
* A harness with certified back protection
* A phone that you can send a text or WhatsApp message from
* Everything else that you need to legally fly a paraglide in New Zealand
25% of the places (11) need to be held for international pilots until 45 days before the event as per FAI rules.
All other places will be awarded roughly as first-registered-first-offered ultimately at the discretion of the comp director and no discussion will necessarily be entered into.
All pilots are expected to know how to upload the waypoints to their own instrument and MUST provide a tracklog by the nominated submission time. We may not be able to offer support with this so please make a plan for how you are going to submit your tracklog for scoring.
Because Waikato and Auckland have different waypoint files - please be careful. We won't know for sure where we are going until the Thursday before each round.
You can find Auckland waypoints here: http://www.nzhgpa.org.nz/competitions/pg-competitions/downloads/Auckland%20Competition%20Waypoints%202016.wpt?attredirects=0&d=1

If you are widely regarded as a nut-job then you may be refused entry at the discretion of the competition organiser without further discussion.
Documents required at registration
-
National Licence
The organiser requires you to present your National flying licence.
-
Signed Application form
You will need to sign an applicaton form at the venue. Usually the organiser will provide it on arrival.
-
Identification documents needed
You will need to provide photo ID on arrival. This could be Passport, Driving Licence or National ID, for example.
Cancellation Policy
If the Competition is cancelled due to Covid 19 restrictions, with unrecoverable financial commitments, a percentage of the entry fee will be retained to cover these costs.
The retention of funds will be capped at a maximum of 40% of entry fee.
Should this occur, a financial report covering these costs and recovered funds will be made available, upon request, no later than 30 days after the cancellation date.
We will be keeping a careful eye on Government restrictions and we will endeavour to inform registered pilots of any necessary news ASAP. We advise all pilots to plan their trip very carefully taking into account refund policies on travel and accommodation.
Pilot Cancellation
If a pilot wishes to cancel their confirmed place, prior to 7 December 2021 they will receive a full refund. After this date refunds will only occur, at the discretion of the organiser, if another pilot on the waiting list is able to take the place.
Prize fund and scoring categories
Auckland Champion Trophy (best pilot)
General schedule
We will meet and gather somewhere for a briefing at 10:00 each morning.
We will meet at Paeroas - meet at Ngapouri Road junction
If Dills Hill - meet at Puhoi Pub
If Moirs Hill - meet at Puhoi Pub
If Kaimais - meet at Ronnies Bakery in Matamata
We will then convoy up the hill. Pilots need to arrange their own transport up the hill, and retrieve. The organiser is not arranging this for you. Please note that walking up the Kaimais is not permitted.
During task briefing a suitable watering hole will be nominated for after flight meeting. There may be help with track uploads but it is by far the best if you can do this yourself. Reach around to the people in your group and make a plan for immediate tracklog upload.
