Event info

The British Sports Trophy will be an FAI event, scoring full WPRS points. It will be open to all pilots flying wings that are certified EN-C and below.

This is the 4th British Sports event. The events objective is to find a British Sports Champion, whilst offering an environment for up and coming pilots to compete on a more level playing field, without having to fly in tasks designed more for competition gliders. We are sure to attract a high level of pilots flying EN-B and EN-C wings that can demonstrate what is possible to achieve while still remaining in most pilots comfort zone.

The event is in the beautiful St Soca Valley near Tolmin, in the Julian Alps. The event will be based in the popular flyers paradise of Camp Gabrje. The launch is large and grassy. The scenery is stunning!

The Event will be limited to 120 Pilots mainly to allow everyone to fly with a little bit less stress.

What do you get?
The entry fee includes all the usual aspect, plus a few extras for this year!

- Seven high quality tasks of up to 80km
- A full tracking system for safety and scoring
- t-shirt or other souvenir

- Mid week party

The week before is an Naviter Open event, in the same venue. This makes for a perfect opportunity for pilots to link two events together if they want to expand their competition experience in a short period. Both events can be found on Airtribune.

Flying site

Kobala is a famous flying site in Soca river valley in Slovenia. With the landing place in Tolmin it is intended for flying hang gliders and paragliders, for sport flying, competitions, events and training hang glider and paraglider pilots. Kobala ia a popular paragliding and hang gliding take-off, as well as an excellent starting point for long cross-country flights on the southern crest of the Julian Alps and a well-known competition site. The best conditions for long cross-country flights are with a very weak general N or E wind. However, the western wind, more suitable for local flying, will normally predominate. Allowed airspace up to 2900 m AMSL.

Kobala take-off 1080 m ASL, N46° 10.86, E13° 46.76.
Suitable wind direction: E, SE, SW, W.
A very large ,nicely maintained meadow on the pointed top of the forest-covered Kobala hill. Two take-off directions are possible depending on the direction of the wind. It is located above the town of Tolmin offers good conditions to launch in a wide range of winds, from ENE to WNW. Although not too big, on a flying day gentle breeze allows many pilots to launch quick without any problems. Access 4 km by car, right to the take-off area.

Landing: official Kobala landing is 2 km after the city of Tolmin on the road going to Kobarid, rigth side of the road along a dirt road, 500m from main road. good reference point is the helipad, there're two windsocks on this field. the emergency landing field is in front of Tolmin, where the road splits like figure V. During the competition we will be using the main landing by the campsite Gabrje, located 2,5 km NW from the official Tolmin landing.

Selection and entry fee

Registration Process 2024
Your registration requires approval that you meet the minimum Pilot Entry Requirements for the British Paragliding Open Competitions 2024. Full details about the registration process and eligibility criteria can be found at the following URL
https://pgcomps.org.uk/home/pilot-entry-criteria/

Approved pilots will be invited to pay for each competition according to their pilot rank (see below). Your place at a competition is not confirmed until we have received your payment for the competition. The Pilot Lists show the current status of your registration.

- BHPA members with a British Sporting Licence will be offered places before other nations, in the order of registration*
- Other nationalities will receive payment offers around 14 days later #
- 15% (21 places) are reserved for female pilots until 45 days before the start of the event.
- Up to 10 places are reserved for wildcards
- The organisers reserve the right to vary the above method at their discretion at all times

# The first 50% of the places are selected according to WPRS. Any remaining places will be selected according to Time Registered. The above selection criteria will be adhered to throughout. This ensures a high scoring event, and a healthy mix of pilot abilities.

Please press the green Org CIVL button on the top, right of the Participants page to see the correct order for selection/ British pilots will be invited to pay first in ranked order, followed by pilots of other nations one week later, also in ranked order.

IMPORTANT: When you register for a competition, if you do not enter your ‘correct’ CIVL number then you will not be ranked correctly. Your CIVL number you can look up with the link on the Registration page. Also when you register you will be required to enter your ‘FAI Sporting Licence Nationality’. This is not another nationality you happen to hold, nor is it where you were born, or where you currently live, but is the country that issued your Sporting Licence (‘United Kingdom’ for BHPA issued licences).

Once a competition is full, pilots will be added to a waiting list and then if a place becomes available it will be offered to the next highest ranked pilot on the list. The pilot will receive an email from us inviting them to pay their entry fee and will have 1 week to do so before the place is offered to the next highest ranked pilot on the list.

Payment
• The entry fee for 2024 will be 250 GBP*. Fees and dates will be strictly adhered to. Payments are made with PayPal.
• If you are offered a place at a competition venue, at the start of the competition, then you must pay your pilot entry fee in cash, in the local currency.

*£250 is approximately 300 euro with Paypal exchange rates.

Please contact us if you have a difficulty making payment @ admin@pgcomps.co.uk

Last minute registrations
Any pilot wishing to participate in the event by attending the venue must come to HQ at 18:00 on registration day. Your name and details will be recorded, and we will inform you in the evening if you have been successful in gaining a place. Selection will be by priority to British pilots, and thereafter by a mixture WPRS points or time registered, according to the Panel's recently announced selection method for future events (It is no longer exclusively by WPRS. See panel news).
