Thanks to the gentle landscape and to the numerous lakes right in front of the take off, Cornizzolo’s flight area offers free flyers the ideal flight conditions determined by the breeze coming from the flatlands toward the mountains. Since the beginning of free flight, it has been a classic FAI national and international competition site, where ridge and mountain flying can be mixed with flatlands flying in the same day, providing highly technical tasks of more than 100 km, in a very safe environment.
Starting from Cornizzolo, it is possible to perform various cross country flights suitable to every skill level.
The official goal is located near the mountains in Suello landing field; it’s a huge grass area without obstacles. This is due to the effort of the local Aero Club Lecco and clubs: Scurbatt & Paragliding club Lecco helped by the local administrators in keeping it free of commercial developments.

Flying conditions: classic pre-Alps conditions, there are some ridges facing on the flatlands in front , and higher mountains north of them. where breezes and thermals get stronger especially in spring.
Generally, it's not possible to fly with North to north-west winds.

Flying area: LARIAN TRIANGLE including the districts of Lecco, Como, Bergamo.
The Cornizzolo Cup task area is very wide and offers the possibility to dispute highly technical tasks, mixing mountain flight sections to selective flatland sections.
Usually there are no valley winds, or dangerous lee side areas, conditions are generally suitable even for not inexperienced competitors, the area is far from the main air traffic routes and is full of spare landings, with a lot of roads even on the mountains, this makes every recovery easy and fast.
The area offers a great variety of tasks: fast mountain flight as in the track record here above, or technical and selective routes over the flatland between the lakes. The variety of the landscape offers the competitors the possibility to chose a lot of different routes to run a task, that in a long competition leads to a daily change in the score.

The place has three take offs: Mt. Cornizzolo, Pian delle Betulle and Linzone-Valcava.

Official Take-off Monte Cornizzolo (LC) - 1100 m ASL, N 45° 50' 03.9” E 9° 17' 40.0”

Conditions: huge takeoff, perfect slope. Usually gets thermal breeze.
Mt. Cornizzolo is 1240 m. high. The competition official take off is a wide grass slope located on the west side of the summit. It can host over than 200 wings, it is named "Centrale", and to reach it the pilots will have to walk for a few minutes from the road. It’s altitude increases from 1000 to 1190 meters. The "Risparmio" take off is also available, 50 meters lower, 600 meters far from the “Centrale”, it’s very close to the road, a little smaller and it is commonly used by local pilots. All the take offs are wide and very safe, without obstacles or trees. Flying is feasible with winds coming from westerly to easterly directions. It can be extremely unsafe to fly with a northerly wind, unless it is very weak.

Take off Pian delle Betulle
It is located nearby in Valsassina. It is a huge grass field reachable by cable car, having enough room for over 200 wings. The FAI-2 competition: Pian delle Betulle trophy and some tasks of the Paragliding World Cup have been held here in the past. In this valley (Valsassina,) there are also two big landing fields suitable as goals.
The Pian delle Betulle take off is suitable having winds coming from NE-W-S direction.

Take off Linzone -Valcava
This is the huge top of Mt. Linzone (Valcava), that can be reached by bus and with a 15 minute walk, it has also been used during the PWC events. This area offers a valid alternative solution in case of northerly wind, the take off is suitable having N-W-SE winds. A big landing field is also available near the mountain, but from there it is very easy to do a cross country flight to reach the official landing area of Suello.

The official Goal is located in the Suello landing field, close to the mountain, 2km of straight distance from the take off, it’s a huge grass area without obstacles. The HQ is near the landing field.
The official Suello’s landing is a huge area of roughly 20.000 sqm without obstacles. It is possible to land safely in every wind direction. Its altitude is 235 m. The step from the take off is roughly 900 meters.
